For the last two decades, Shlomit Rubin has been practicing as a psychotherapist specializing in individuals, couples, and families, focusing on women and their sexuality, pre and postpartum experiences, fertility issues, and the impact of divorce on children. In her private practice, located in the West Village, Shlomit integrates Psychodynamic therapy, mentalization, and attention to bodily sensations to help clients become more aware of the mind-body connection and develop a greater understanding of their lived experiences.
Born in Israel, Shlomit moved to the United States in 1986 and worked as an educator prior to earning her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. She went on to become a certified psychoanalyst and member of the Contemporary Freudian Society. For more than twenty years, Shlomit has trained and worked extensively in the mental health field, deepening her knowledge and integrating different modalities and techniques into her practice. She completed a three year training with the Annie Bergman Parent Infant Parent Program and earned a certificate in Parent-Infant Psychotherapy. Moreover, she holds a certificate in Adolescent Psychotherapy from New York University’s Institute for Psychoanalytic Education. Most recently, Shlomit became a certified Somatic Practitioner and utilizes mind/body connection strategies to help her clients increase awareness and understanding. For the past twelve years Shlomit has been studying individual and couples sexuality and is an associate member in SSTAR.

Sometimes we arrive at a place in our lives where we feel that we are continually pulling on the ends of a knot. Instead of untangling, the knot becomes tighter. In a safe space designed to encourage reflection, we will unpack current difficulties and long-standing issues in the context of past experiences. All of us are impacted by our upbringing, and if we can begin to understand these experiences and how they affect the roles we play in the world, then we are at an undeniable advantage for improving our well-being.
My clients gain new perspectives, increased levels of understanding, and effective communication and mindfulness strategies that promote health and happiness rather than conflict.
By drawing upon psychodynamic, mentalization, and somatic (body) experience techniques, my clients are better able to create fundamental connections between their mind and body and, with time, newfound awareness that leads to change and personal growth.
