Emily Davenport founded Davenport Creative Arts Therapy with a mission to empower women and LGBTQ+ identifying folks who struggle with burnout, anxiety, and depression. Emily and her team of therapists specialize in offering Mindful, Creative, and Evidence-Based Psychotherapy.
Emily is a Licensed, Registered, and Board-Certified Creative Arts Therapist. As an undergraduate at the Pratt Institute, she first experienced the healing potential of mindfulness on a Zen Buddhist meditation retreat while studying abroad in Tokyo, Japan. Weaving together her interests in art, psychology, and mindfulness, she went on to complete a Masters Degree in Art Therapy from New York University.
Early in her career as a therapist, Emily had the opportunity to refine her clinical skills while employed at renowned institutions such as The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorder Treatment, Bronx Psychiatric Center, and New York City Children's Center. In these settings, she wore a number of hats as an individual therapist, group therapist, workshop facilitator, and supervisor of graduate-level interns affiliated with New York University.
It was during her tenure with the State of New York where Emily completed two-years (170 hours) of intensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training with Dr. Shari Manning, Ph.D., and her affiliates. Emily was later nomination to be an internal DBT trainer within the New York State Office of Mental Health system. Throughout her employment, she gained recognition for her ability to effectively treat hard-to-reach clients and spearhead innovative treatment programs.
As the founder and clinical director at Davenport Creative Arts Therapy, Emily supervises a team of five Licensed Creative Arts Therapists. A majority of her team holds dual certification and/or licensure. Each therapist holds training in either Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and/or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in addition to other modalities such as Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Holistic Nutrition. To uphold a reputation for integrity and success, all of the therapists in the practice participate in weekly supervision and regularly attend continuing education workshops.
In collaboration with her integrative therapy offerings, Emily conducts corporate wellness workshops, retreats, and speaking engagements. Notable clients and invitations include Molly College, The Giorgio Armani Corporation, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Wix, and the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights. Emily has been featured on a number of podcasts, including Mind Body Radio, Business Talk Radio, and the Heart of Healing Radio.
